Professional Bio

  • Alexander Olsen specializes in the fields of ERISA and employee benefits law. He counsels clients on issues involving qualified and non-qualified retirement plans and welfare plans including the drafting of various welfare plan documents and employer administrative forms, such as COBRA disclosures and beneficiary designation forms.

    Alex also has in-depth experience drafting, modifying, reviewing, and counseling clients with respect to employee handbooks, summary plan descriptions and cafeteria plans that comply with Massachusetts health care law. In addition, Alex prepares and manages annual Form 5500 filings, summary annual reports, and preparing submissions to the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor under various correction programs, such as the Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program, Delinquent Filer Voluntary Compliance Program, and the Voluntary Correction Program. He also advises clients with respect to managing and administration of terminating employee benefit plans (including orphaned plans) including preparation of IRS From 5310 and monitoring the distribution of account balances to participants. Alex also has in-depth experience in the preparation of ERISA expert witness testimony.

    Prior to The Wagner Law Group, Alexander served as an attorney and consultant at Burt, Staples & Maner in Boston, MA and as a lead tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service.
